FAROKH ENGINEER: I Partner India because they are the most effective vehicle of supporting a wide range of causes in India. I believe in the passion and vision of this organisation and I have seen first hand examples of their very inspiring work!
Born in Bombay in 1938 Farokh rose to the very top of International Cricket. He played test cricket for India from 1962 until he retired in 1976. He broke most previous records both as batter and bowler and to this day he still holds the record of the fastest test century ever scored in test cricket. In a test match against the West Indies it only took him 46 balls in the opening innings against bowlers Wes Hall, Charlie Griffiths, Gilcrest, Sobers and Gibbs. He was the very first Indian cricketer to have been offered professional contracts by four English counties and played for Lancashire for 12 successful years.
In 1973 Farokh awareded the title “Padma Shree” by the Prime Minister of India. He is a Hon. Life Member of various cricket clubs and has received numerous awards such as the “Paul Harris Award, the highest Honour bestowed by Rotary International. After his active career he has held various commentating contracts with TV channels such as Sky Sports, ESPN, BCC or ITV. He has also been active in numerous charitable roles and together with other sportsmen and celebrities raised over a million Pounds for the Royal National Institute of the Blind.
